In the 1990s, Sam toured the world as the lead guitarist of iconic lesbian rock band, The Blue House. But there was one place she wouldn’t play – Darwin. Growing up, her dad had made it sound like the world’s most wretched destination and even the lure of the Parap swimming pool, where he’d worked for years, couldn’t bring Sam north. But that all changed one night in Sydney at a gig for gay doctors, when her tropical home squeezed through the crowd and stepped onto the stage.
